One of the more unique techniques at Interim House is its therapeutic knitting program. Since 2004, Interim House has welcomed knitting volunteers from the community to help support this effort. The program has helped women improve the quality of their lives by offering them a positive coping skill to deal with the everyday stressors. We find our knitting program contributes to increased self esteem and fosters the healing process by helping women stay grounded. The knitting program also fosters a sense of community among the women in recovery by creating an arena in which they can help each other; exposes them to volunteers in our local community; and creates avenues for economic self-sufficiency by selling, bartering and/or acquiring a marketable skill.
